Roger was born in Cheshire and after graduating from the University of Bradford with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, trained as a chartered civil engineer. His early career was spent in the private sector working initially for Balfour Beatty and then for the civil engineering consultants Sir Owen Williams & Partners, based in London. In 1993 he moved to Dover to join Dover District Council as a Principal Engineer where he continues to work and after many changes in role is now a member of the senior management team. Married and a father of two sons, and now with two grandchildren, he is Chair of Trustees at Martha Trust and also chairs the Deal Education Alliance for Learning Trust (DEALT), a multi-academy trust which manages eight primary schools in Deal. He joined as a member of Dover Rotary Club in 2007 and served as President in 2015/16..
